Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun: "Let Palm-Sized Gardens Become Spaces Where Community Spirit Blooms"

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jeong Jun-sung] Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun met with members of the Saebit Suwon Palm-Sized Garden Corps and said, "I hope palm-sized gardens will become spaces where community spirit blooms."

Mayor Lee attended the 'Saebit Suwon Palm-Sized Garden Corps Meeting Day' events held by district on the 19th-20th (Paldal-gu), 26th-27th (Jangan-gu, Yeongtong-gu, Gwonseon-gu), where he encouraged the members and said, "We will actively support residents creating palm-sized gardens," and "I hope you will tend to these gardens freely wherever your hands lead you."

The Palm-Sized Garden Corps District Meeting Day events were held at Paldal Cultural Center (Paldal-gu), Ilwol Arboretum Hiyerri Hall (Jangan-gu), Gwonseon-gu Office Conference Room (Gwonseon-gu), and Yeongtong-gu Office Conference Room (Yeongtong-gu).

Members discussed the organization and operation direction of the Palm-Sized Garden Corps and explored ways to efficiently promote the palm-sized garden project. There was also a hands-on experience session for planting seedlings in pots.

The city is promoting the palm-sized garden project, which creates 'open gardens' made together by citizens throughout the city. Citizens and communities plant flowers, trees, and other vegetation in vacant lots, unused land, and other spaces to create gardens.

The Saebit Suwon Palm-Sized Garden Corps is a citizen volunteer group that works with palm-sized garden policies and creates garden culture, engaging in various activities including operating promotional booths at Suwon's tree-planting events, monitoring palm-sized gardens, and participating in Gardening Day. Currently, approximately 860 members are active in the corps.
