Suwon Special City Administrative Phone Number Prefix Changes from 228 to 5191

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] The administrative phone number prefix for Suwon Special City will be completely changed to '5191' starting July 1st. The existing prefix was 228.

The prefix for all administrative agencies in Suwon City, including City Hall, district offices, business divisions, dong administrative welfare centers, and directly affiliated institutions (health centers), will be changed to 5191. For calls made to the existing 228 prefix, call forwarding service will be provided until December 31st of this year, with voice guidance announcing the phone number change.

This prefix change was implemented as Suwon City's organizational structure expanded and administrative demand increased, causing the existing 228 prefix (6,800 numbers) to become insufficient. The new 5191 prefix allows for 10,000 phone numbers. The 5191 prefix is used exclusively by Suwon City.

A city official stated, "The 228 prefix has been shared with schools, hospitals, and private businesses, causing many citizens to mistake them for Suwon City agencies," adding "By comprehensively reorganizing the administrative phone number system with the 5191 prefix, we will enhance administrative efficiency."
