Namyangju City Mayor Ju Kwang-deok Participates in 29th Citizens' Peace and Unification March

[Suwon Ilbo=Eom In-yong Reporter] Namyangju City Mayor Ju Kwang-deok participated on the 15th in the '29th Citizens' Peace and Unification March' held at Yi Seok-yeong Plaza, sharing citizens' aspirations for peace and unification.

The event was organized by the Korea Freedom Federation Namyangju Chapter (Chairman Bae Jin-sung) and conducted with subsidies provided by Namyangju City.

Held to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Liberation, the event was attended by approximately 1,700 citizens including Mayor Ju, Namyangju City Council Vice-Chairwoman Lee Jung-ae, provincial and city council members, heads of government offices and civic organizations, and children and youth.

Participants held a Liberation Day commemorative ceremony and conducted 'calf raise' warm-up exercises to strengthen their calves before the walking event. Afterwards, they walked approximately 3.5 kilometers together along the trails surrounding Hong Yul-neung, reflecting on the significance of Liberation and honoring the sacrificial spirit of the honored fallen.

Chairman Bae Jin-sung said, "Liberation was achieved through the sacrifices and dedication of countless unnamed individuals," and expressed hope that "this event will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the joy and meaning of Liberation and for citizens to unite as one."

Mayor Ju Kwang-deok stated, "This peace and unification march is a meaningful occasion to honor the sacrifices of independence patriots and honored fallen and to express gratitude to their families," adding "This gathering today, where we remember history and yearn for unification, aligns with Namyangju's direction as it moves toward the future."
