Kim Sung-je, Mayor of Uiwang, "In 2026, I will create a premium city with competitiveness"

[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter You Je-sung] Mayor Kim Sung-je of Uiwang presented the city's accomplishments this year and outlined the city administration direction and vision for next year through a "2026 budget policy speech" at the 2nd regular session of Uiwang City Council on the 1st.

Mayor Kim assessed that "2025 was a meaningful year in which citizens' long-cherished projects were resolved and key projects got on track," and cited representative accomplishments including △the attraction of Uiwang General Hospital △the opening of Baegun Lake Park △the groundbreaking of Bugok Community Center △the groundbreaking of Ojeon~Cheonggyesan Tunnel construction △the opening of Songbu-ro connector road △the opening of premium buses and smart buses △the opening of Uiwang Baseball Stadium and Geumcheoncheon Park Golf Course.

Mayor Kim stated, "Next year's general account budget has been compiled at 583 billion won, a 6.7% increase from this year's original budget," and emphasized, "We will prioritize enhancing citizen convenience and make efforts for efficient budget management."

He then explained implementation plans for key sectors including urban development, transportation, education, and culture regarding next year's city administration direction.

First, the city will actively support urban development projects in Gocheon, Chopyeong, Woram, and Cheonggyesan 2 districts and the three new cities project of Uiwang, Gunpo, and Ansan so they proceed as planned, and aims to designate Ojeon and Wanggok districts as public housing districts by next year.

To secure self-sufficient functions, the city plans to establish an industrial complex in Poil-dong and secure urban support facility sites in Ojeon and Wanggok districts to the maximum extent.

The city is accelerating the expansion of wide-area transportation infrastructure. It will support the smooth progress of the Indeokwon~Dongtan Line and Wolgot~Pangyo Line double-track railway projects and strengthen coordination with relevant agencies to expedite the GTX-C project.

Additionally, the city will concentrate administrative efforts on reflecting new railway lines including the Wirye-Gwacheon Line extension to Uiwang, the new Woram Station on National Line 1, and the new Wanggok Station (tentative name) on the Indong Line.

In the education sector, the city will build educational infrastructure in response to the AI era. It will break ground on the 'Uiwang Future Education Center' in the first half of next year and strengthen the education environment through the opening of an integrated Baegun Lake elementary and middle school.

The city plans to begin full-scale preparation for the opening of the 'Uiwang Culture and Arts Hall,' which is under construction targeting completion next year, and establish the 'Uiwang Cultural Foundation' to lay the foundation for becoming a cultural city.

Mayor Kim Sung-je emphasized, "Uiwang City will take a step further in 2026 based on its accomplishments so far," and "We will lay the foundation for urban development and create a premium city with competitiveness in transportation, education, culture, and welfare across all sectors."
