Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won Meets GH President Kim Yong-jin, Urges Swift Progress on Major Development Projects
[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter Yu Je-seong] Gwangmyeong Mayor Park Seung-won urged the Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (President Kim Yong-jin, hereafter GH) to actively cooperate so that Gwangmyeong City's major development projects can proceed swiftly as planned.
Mayor Park visited GH's Gwanggyo headquarters on the afternoon of the 16th and met with President Kim Yong-jin to convey opinions on regional development issues including △preparing specialized strategies for self-sufficient land in Gwangmyeong-Siheung New City Phase 3 △promoting early compensation for Gwangmyeong-Siheung New City Phase 3 △cooperating in the acquisition of rental housing land in Gureumsan District.
Mayor Park stated, "The development of Gwangmyeong-Siheung New City Phase 3 is a core project that will determine Gwangmyeong's future for the next 100 years," and urged, "Rather than being merely a residential-focused city, please proactively prepare specialized strategies such as corporate attraction strategies so that it can become a self-sufficient city with jobs, industry, and living functions all combined."
The city has continuously raised the importance of securing self-sufficient land even before establishing the district plan for Phase 3 New City, and has made organic growth of a city where industry, jobs, and living infrastructure are combined a core task. Mayor Park emphasized the need for this direction to be sufficiently reflected throughout the entire development process.
Along with this, Mayor Park also mentioned the necessity of swift compensation for original residents in the Phase 3 New City development area. He conveyed the position that as compensation is not being carried out according to the original schedule, residents are experiencing difficulties such as increased financial costs and infringement of property rights, and therefore practical measures to minimize resident burden are necessary.
Additionally, Mayor Park also requested that GH fulfill its obligation to acquire rental housing land in connection with the Gureumsan District urban development project.
The Gureumsan District is a project being directly implemented by Gwangmyeong City to improve residential environment and supply quality housing in areas where development restrictions have been lifted. Under the Urban Development Act, GH has the obligation to acquire rental housing land when requested by the developer, but currently acquisition is being delayed due to financial reasons and other factors, raising concerns not only about residential insecurity for residents facing demolition but also about overall project implementation delays.
The city delivered a letter urging GH to acquire rental housing land in Gureumsan District on the 3rd of this month.
Meanwhile, with this meeting as an opportunity, the city plans to further solidify its cooperation system with GH and continue consultations to ensure that major development projects such as Gwangmyeong-Siheung New City Phase 3 and Gureumsan District can be promoted stably.
Mayor Park Seung-won stated, "Gwangmyeong City's major development projects are not merely city expansion but tasks directly related to residents' quality of life," and added, "I hope that Gwangmyeong City and GH will closely cooperate to alleviate resident concerns and promote projects in a direction that leads to regional development."
In response, President Kim Yong-jin answered, "We will comprehensively review Gwangmyeong City's requests and actively explore necessary cooperation measures to ensure that there are no delays in the project implementation process."
