Ju Gwang-deok Namyangju Mayor Declares Major Transformation to 1 Million Mega City and Future-Oriented Self-Sufficient City

[Suwon Ilbo=Eom In-yong Reporter] Mayor Ju Gwang-deok of Namyangju presented the completion of urban infrastructure for a '1 million mega city leap' and a major transformation to a 'future-oriented self-sufficient city' as core visions through a policy address at the 307th Namyangju City Council interim session's 1st general meeting on the 3rd.

To realize this vision, the city plans to operate city affairs centered on 4 major strategies: △completion of metropolitan transportation hub city △transformation to future-oriented self-sufficient city △creation of city with cultural prestige △strengthening of comprehensive care system for all life stages.

First, the city will accelerate construction of an ultra-wide area transportation network. Beginning with full-scale construction of the GTX-B line, it will pursue D, E, F, and Plus G lines in phases while beginning in earnest the leap to becoming a key transportation hub city in the Seoul metropolitan area.

The Line 9 Gangdong-Hanam-Namyangju section is undergoing administrative procedures with a target for construction next year, while the extension of subway lines 3 and 6 will continue coordination for reflection in government plans.

Alongside this, the city plans to establish an all-roads-lead transportation system by expanding road infrastructure including construction of the Suseok Bridge, the Central Connection expressway, the Gangbyeon Northern Road underground expressway, and the 2nd Gyeongchun Connection expressway.

For transformation to a future-oriented self-sufficient city, the city will pursue innovation in industry, medical care, and urban space.

Centered on attracting tertiary general hospitals, it will establish a region-complete medical system linked with innovative public hospitals, while promoting balanced development projects including Chungchon Village national pilot district, Deokso youth complex hub, Maseok Station area compact city, and Ipae-dong urban development.

Additionally, the city will foster AI and digital industry based on cooperation with financial and platform companies.

Over the past year, the city has achieved investment attraction results of 3 trillion won in scale through cooperation with major financial and platform companies, and will foster AI industry through creation of the Hwado-eup X-AI smart energy data center while pursuing large-scale value-added and job creation.

In March, the city will hold an investment attraction briefing session to publicize the competitiveness of the Wangsuk advanced industrial complex and strengthen cooperation networks in advanced industries such as robotics, pharmaceuticals, and biotech.

Alongside this, it will establish a basic plan for startup ecosystem creation to settle a structure in which industrial growth and quality jobs circulate in a positive cycle.

Furthermore, based on the 'Jeong Yak-yong City' brand, it will enhance the value of a city with cultural prestige.

It will develop the (tentative name) Jeong Yak-yong Park being created in the railway-covered section of the Gyeongui-Junggang Line as a new landmark of Namyangju and pursue creation of a culture happiness city centered on the Namyangju Culture Foundation that was launched last year.

Finally, it will establish a care system responsible for all life stages.

It will expand operations of the nation's first elementary school care facility 'Sangsang Nurit-teo,' implement the Wangsuk 2nd District WE Dream Park, support youth startups, expand elderly job opportunities, and introduce AI-based disaster prediction systems to realize a safe city where all generations can live with peace of mind.

Mayor Ju Gwang-deok stated, "So that 2026 can be remembered by future generations as the year of Namyangju's remarkable transformation, all 2,500 public officials will move forward steadfastly looking only at citizens without wavering," and added, "We will do our best until the day when citizens' dreams are fulfilled in everyday prosperity."
