Kim Sung-je, Uiwang Mayor: "I will Complete a Premier City Where People Love to Live"

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-sung] Uiwang Mayor Kim Sung-je stated his commitment: "I will work with greater vigor to complete a premier city of Uiwang where education, welfare, culture and arts thrive, enabling it to leap forward as 'the most livable city in the nation' by 2030."

Mayor Kim held a '2026 New Year Press Briefing' at the City Hall Conference Room on the 5th, announcing this vision while presenting major achievements of the 8th Popular Election term in Uiwang and the 2026 city administration direction.

Mayor Kim stated, "The past three and a half years have been a time of dynamic advancement as we prepared for a new future for Uiwang," adding, "We have created innovative changes across all aspects of the city, from large-scale urban development and dual-track railway projects to education, welfare, culture and arts, employment, and safety."

In particular, he highlighted the resolution of long-standing pending projects as major achievements of the city, citing representative examples including the groundbreaking of the Uiwang Cultural Arts Center, commencement of the Indeokwon-Dongtan and Wolgot-Pangyo dual-track railways, opening of the Naeson Coeducational School, and recruitment of the Uiwang General Hospital.

He also unveiled major achievements including the attraction of businesses and investment in Chopyeong District and Cheongye 2 District, groundbreaking of Bugok Community Center, launch of premium buses between Uiwang Station and Pangyo and smart buses in Chopyeong-dong, opening of the Uiwill Road 2, creation of 22 barefoot walking paths, opening of Baekun Lake Ecological Trail and Baekun Lake Park, opening of Uiwang Baseball Stadium and Geumcheon Stream Parkgolf Course, opening of the Bugok Branch of the Global Talent Center, implementation of free senior bus riding support, and opening of healing shelters for people with disabilities.

Subsequently, Mayor Kim stated, "Now we will open a new future for Uiwang," and explained the 2026 city administration direction and major projects to be promoted.

The city plans to actively support large-scale urban development projects being pursued throughout the city (△Gocheon △Chopyeong △Woram △Cheongye 2 △Uiwang-Gunpo-Ansan 3rd New City △Ojeon-Wanggok District) to proceed with momentum, and will not spare administrative support to ensure that 10 redevelopment and reconstruction projects also advance swiftly.

Additionally, the city will proceed without interruption with the Poil-dong Industrial Complex Development Project and the establishment of the Uiwang Industrial Promotion Agency, and plans to complete the 'Uiwang Dokkaebi Market Arcade' project by April this year to revitalize local commerce.

Furthermore, the city will support the Indeokwon-Dongtan Line and Wolgot-Pangyo Line dual-track railways to proceed as planned, and will closely coordinate with relevant agencies to enable the Uiwang Station GTX-C Line to commence construction at an early stage.

In particular, the city will make an all-out effort to ensure that the core project of the Wirae-Gwacheon Line Uiwang Extension Plan is reflected in this year's '5th National Railway Network Construction Plan,' and will actively coordinate with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Korea Land & Housing Corporation regarding the 'Indeokwon-Dongtan Line (tentative name) Wanggok Station Establishment Plan' and the 'National Railway Line 1 Woram Station Establishment Plan.'

Additionally, the 'Uiwang Future Education Center,' which will serve as a hub for future education, will break ground in the first half of this year, and the city will proactively prepare by securing new government building sites for the establishment of an independent Uiwang Office of Education unique to Uiwang.

Furthermore, the Uiwang Cultural Arts Center, which will open this year, will be developed as a central facility for Uiwang's culture, and the city will elevate the city's cultural status by establishing the Uiwang Cultural Foundation.

In addition, the Baekun Lake Park, a civic rest area, will feature the addition of a five-color garden and musical fountains, and the Wangsong Lake Park will be developed into a refined leisure space in connection with the 3rd New City development.

Mayor Kim Sung-je stated, "2026 will be an important year to bear meaningful fruit from the 8th Popular Election term and open a new future for Uiwang," and expressed his commitment: "Through large-scale urban development projects and the construction of metropolitan transportation networks, we will redraw the map of Uiwang."
