Icheon City Completes Bubal Public Sewage Treatment Facility… Laying Foundation for Improved Living Environment

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Um In-yong] Icheon City held a completion ceremony on the 5th for the Bubal Public Sewage Treatment Facility located in Sanchon-ri, Bubal-eup, marking a turning point in improving the region's sewerage environment and enhancing residents' quality of life.

The completion ceremony was attended by approximately 200 people including Mayor Kim Gyeong-hee, National Assembly member Song Seok-jun, City Council Chairman Park Myeong-seo, and local residents, who celebrated the completion and shared the achievements in environmental improvement and enhanced convenience for residents.

The Bubal Sewage Treatment Plant completed this time is a facility implemented in accordance with Icheon City's Sewerage Improvement Master Plan (Revision), systematically reflecting mid- and long-term sewage treatment demand. It was planned to proactively respond to increasing domestic sewage treatment and water quality improvement requirements.

Furthermore, the city secured national and provincial funding through phased project implementation following the establishment of the sewerage improvement master plan and proceeded to completion through design and construction processes that reflected residents' opinions.

The city stated that beginning with the conclusion of a delegation agreement between Icheon City and the Korea Environment Institute in June 2011 through the completion ceremony, the active cooperation and understanding of the region during site selection processes and construction periods amid various challenges such as noise and traffic inconvenience served as driving forces for smooth project implementation and completion.

In particular, the Bubal Public Sewage Treatment Facility can process 14,000 tons daily, and by applying the latest eco-friendly methods, it is expected to effectively remove water quality pollutants and significantly improve the quality of discharged water.

Additionally, along with the treatment plant facilities, the completion of 24.5km of pipelines, 14 pump stations, and sewage facilities for 646 households has laid the foundation to respond to sewage inflow resulting from development plans such as the Bubal Station area.

Meanwhile, this facility processes sewage generated from areas including parts of Sanchon-ri and Munchon-ri, Jukdang 1·2-ri, and Sinwon 1·3·4·5-ri, contributing to improving odor and water quality pollution problems caused by domestic sewage. The facility was built underground, and resident-friendly spaces including landscaping, walking paths, and rest areas were created utilizing the upper space.

Mayor Kim Gyeong-hee said, "With the completion of the Bubal Public Sewage Treatment Facility as an opportunity, I will systematically manage sewerage infrastructure and make efforts to improve residents' living environment," and added, "In future sewage treatment plant projects, we will make efforts to reduce odors and create convenient spaces for residents through measures such as underground construction of treatment facilities."
