Osan City Designs Next Year's Budget Centered on Citizen Proposals and Achievements

Osan City (Mayor Cho Yong-ho) is implementing financial innovation to enhance the efficiency and citizen awareness of the 2027 main budget after carefully reviewing the voices of 270,000 residents and business achievements.

At an executive meeting held on the morning of the 17th, Mayor Cho Yong-ho stated, "We are receiving reports on next year's (2027) budget by departments and divisions. In the budget compilation process, we must boldly reorganize budgets that are conventionally reflected or duplicated."

According to the city, this process is significant in that it reorganizes existing projects with a focus on performance while connecting citizen proposals to new budget needs. The aim is to thoroughly review all projects from scratch, boldly reorganize unnecessary budgets, and concentrate the savings on people's livelihoods, citizen safety, and key pledge projects.

The city plans to prepare a budget that citizens can directly feel by balancing fiscal efficiency and on-site demands. To concentrate limited resources where they are most needed, the city examines the performance and necessity of existing projects and also reviews the feasibility of citizen-proposed projects closely related to daily life.

Specifically, by September 21, the city will conduct self-evaluations and departmental reviews centered on project performance. It will carefully examine the necessity and effectiveness of all projects in 2026 and new projects in 2027 to establish maintenance and adjustment directions for each project. The review results from each department will be used in compiling the 2027 main budget following budget deliberation.

Additionally, the city will review the appropriateness of 85 projects submitted through citizen proposal projects for the 2027 participatory budget compilation. The submitted projects will go through departmental review in September and be finally selected at the Citizen Participation Budget Committee to be held in October.

Mayor Cho Yong-ho stated, "I will carefully examine project performance and actively seek practical alternatives for citizen-proposed, daily-life-centered ideas to compile a 2027 budget that citizens can directly feel."
