Yongin City and Eindhoven City Join Hands on Semiconductor Exchange and Cooperation

On the 28th (local time), Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special Metropolitan City and his delegation visiting the Netherlands visited Eindhoven and Delfzijl, advanced technology innovation cities with semiconductor focus and home to ASML headquarters, to discuss semiconductor exchange and cooperation plans.
Subsequently, they held a meeting with the Chief Operating Officer and others at ASML headquarters, a manufacturer of extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment essential for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) semiconductor production, and toured some facilities.
Mayor Lee Sang-il and the city delegation held a conversation with Mayor Marcel Delhez and others at Eindhoven City Hall on that day. Eindhoven is home to ASML headquarters and research and development (R&D;) complexes, where ASML holds the world's top market share in semiconductor equipment sales.
It is also a key region of "Brainport," called the Silicon Valley of Europe. An Verhaak, International Strategy Advisor of Brainport's Economic Development Corporation, also attended the meeting.
At this meeting, Mayor Lee stated, "Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the two anchor companies, are making investments to expand production capacity to meet the surging demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) and other memory semiconductors in the AI era, and production can only be increased if ASML's extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography equipment is supplied at the right time. I hope that exchange and cooperation between Yongin City and Eindhoven City, which have the will to foster the semiconductor industry, will be actively pursued."
Mayor Delhez introduced Eindhoven in detail and said, "I think Eindhoven resembles Yongin City in many ways, and I will make efforts for exchange and cooperation between the two cities, including considering a visit to Yongin in the future."
Mayor Lee Sang-il and the city delegation then moved to Eindhoven and visited the High-Tech Innovation Campus, and held an approximately one-hour meeting with Elco Brinkerhof, CEO of "Photondelta," which supports optical semiconductor technology development, and others.

"High-Tech Campus Eindhoven" is a location where approximately 300 advanced industry-related companies, research institutions, and startups gather, with approximately 13,000 people working to expand the advanced technology ecosystem.
As the final schedule of the day, Mayor Lee visited ASML headquarters for approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes and toured some facilities.
The Mayor and Frederik Schneider-Monoury, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), and Choi Han-jong, Representative Director of ASML Korea, expressed their commitment to mutual cooperation through a meeting.
Yongin Special Metropolitan City and ASML Korea signed an agreement in December 2024 to establish a cooperation complex office within the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster General Industrial Complex in Wonsam-myeon, Cheoein-gu.
Frederik Schneider-Monoury, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), stated in his meeting with the Mayor, "We regard the cooperative relationship with Yongin City, which plays an important role in Korea's semiconductor ecosystem, as very important," and added, "We are pleased to welcome Mayor Lee Sang-il and his delegation at ASML headquarters, and we look forward to continuing constructive cooperation with Yongin City in the future."
