Suwon Releases First Anniversary Report of Seventh Popularly-Elected Administration, "Reading the Radiant Suwon Now"
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kang Han-seo] Suwon City has released 'Reading the Radiant Suwon Now,' a municipal government achievement promotional collection published on the occasion of the first anniversary of the seventh popularly-elected administration.
At the beginning of the book is 'Three Stories of Three Colors Passing Through Suwon,' which features three fictional essays from a woman living in Suwon, a Seoul man who visited Suwon, and a Suwon taxi driver, naturally introducing Suwon City's major policies, projects, and attractions.
'Reading the Radiant Suwon Now' differs in format from existing achievement promotional collections that merely list accomplishments. It is composed of fictional essays that present achievements in an engaging manner and essays from notable figures with connections to Suwon. With many photographs, it feels more like a magazine. The effort reflects Suwon City's intention to create 'an achievement collection that citizens will actually read.'
In particular, this achievement collection consists of thirteen thematic 'stories' written in essay format highlighting major accomplishments of the seventh administration. These include 'Let's Live Warmly with Our Hearts, Friend' (governance), 'Please Take Care of Mom' (elderly-friendly city), 'Passing Down Happiness' (support for childbirth and large families), 'You Must Absolutely Trust Suwon' (youth policies), and others. Policy achievements are concisely presented on a single page.
The collection also includes essays and interviews from notable figures with connections to Suwon: Ajou University Professor Kim Kyung-il, comedian Jung Jong-chul, picturebook author Lee Eok-bae, actor Jung Ui-gap, and humanities writer Choi Jun-young.
The achievement collection will be distributed to all municipal departments and cooperating agencies, as well as citizens. It can also be viewed as an e-book through Suwon City's e-book information and publicity center (http://news.suwon.go.kr/ebook).
During the first year of the seventh administration, the city received 78 awards from domestic and international organizations, having its policy excellence recognized externally, including: the Grand Prize at the Korea Hanok Architecture Competition (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), the Excellence Policy Award in the Sustainable Transportation City Assessment (Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport), certification as an excellent local regulatory innovation organization (Ministry of the Interior and Safety), the Excellence Award for the National Local Government Employment Awards (Ministry of Employment and Labor), and the German iF Design Award.
Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young stated, "When establishing policies, we grasp what citizens most desire and think of ways to achieve maximum effectiveness given the circumstances at hand," and added, "We will listen to citizens' voices more carefully and approach citizens one step further."
