Uiwang Mayor Kim Sang-don Wins Grand Prize at '2019 Governance Local Politics Awards'

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Uiwang Mayor Kim Sang-don received the grand prize in the administrative innovation category at the '2019 Governance Local Politics Awards' held on the 1st at the Flower Expo venue in Ilsan Lake Park, Goyang City.

The Governance Local Politics Awards are hosted by the Governance Center and sponsored by the National Association of Mayors and County Governors and the Committee for Self-Governance and Decentralization. The awards were established to discover outstanding local political activities and select leaders who have contributed to the development of local autonomy, and to promote innovative local politics and advanced political systems based on citizen sovereignty.

Since launching the seventh term of popular elections last year, Mayor Kim has operated 'On-site Administration Day,' where citizens and experts participate together, to realize open governance based on communication and participation, and has actively listened to the voices of citizens. He also actively promoted the operation of 'policy learning meetings' to discover innovative policies. Based on materials from the learning meetings at the end of last year, his administration was selected in a policy contest conducted by Gyeonggi Province, securing 5.5 billion won in external funding.

Mayor Kim said, "I will regard this as an encouraging message to work harder for the development of Uiwang City. Going forward, I will work diligently with citizens to develop Uiwang City into a new center city of the metropolitan area where citizens can be happy."
