Pyeongtaek City Certified as Innovation Excellence Institution Through KLCI Evaluation
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Pyeongtaek City was selected as the top-ranked local government in local autonomy comprehensive competitiveness innovation and 3rd in management activity innovation in the 2019 Korea Local Autonomy Competitiveness Index (KLCI) evaluation on the 2nd, and received certification as an innovation growth excellence institution from the Korea Public Self-Governance Research Institute.
The KLCI is an index for evaluating local autonomy competitiveness by the Korea Public Self-Governance Research Institute, a nonprofit organization that has annually surveyed and analyzed basic local governments nationwide since 1996 across three categories: management resources, management activities, and management performance.
The city saw its KLCI overall competitiveness ranking rise by 22 steps this year, showing the largest growth rate among 75 cities nationwide in comprehensive evaluation of management resources, management activities, and management performance competitiveness. In the KLCI management activity sector, which evaluates four areas of public administration, local administration, living environment, and regional economy across 11 fields, the ranking rose by 11 steps.
The city analyzed that the major factor in innovation growth stems from a significant rise in regional competitiveness index as key policies of the 7th Popular Elected Administration, pursued with the goal of balanced quantitative and qualitative growth, have begun full-scale implementation.
Mayor Jung Jang-seon of Pyeongtaek City stated, "Going forward, we will concentrate our administrative capacity to create a competitive city with Pyeongtaek City's specialized appeal, and will develop substantive development strategies."
