[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] The efforts of Pyeongtaek City and the U.S. Army Humphreys Garrison toward 'mutual prosperity and shared growth' have been recognized by the U.S. Army.

The city announced on December 7 that it jointly received the 2019 Community Relations Award from the U.S. Army at a ceremony held at the Pentagon Hall of Honor on December 5 (U.S. local time) with Humphreys Garrison.
This award is bestowed upon local governments (organizations) and military units that have contributed to exchange, cooperation, and the enhancement of friendly relations, and Pyeongtaek City and Humphreys Garrison were selected as one of 10 recipients.
Vice Mayor Lee Jong-ho and Vice Chair Lee Byeong-bae of Pyeongtaek City Council attended the ceremony on behalf of the city, while Commander Michael Tremblay, base commander of Humphreys Garrison, represented the garrison.
Pyeongtaek City and Humphreys Garrison received high praise for their cooperative efforts to strengthen the relationship between the military base and the local community, including ▲active cultural exchange through the GoodNeighbors program ▲joint hosting of base-opening festivals for harmony between residents and U.S. military personnel ▲monthly joint task force meetings to address pending issues, and were honored with this award.
Meanwhile, next year the city plans to expand and operate the 'GoodNeighbors Project,' a Korea-U.S. friendship program for mutual prosperity and cooperation between residents and the U.S. military, centered on actual beneficiaries, while also pursuing various initiatives such as establishing an online communication channel exclusively for U.S. military personnel (foreigners) and designating 'Pyeongtaek-USFK Friendship Day.'

Commander Michael Tremblay of Humphreys Garrison stated, "Seized with the honor of this award, we will strengthen exchange and cooperation with Pyeongtaek residents and deepen our friendship," adding, "As the largest U.S. military base overseas as a single installation, we will continue to develop an exemplary garrison culture."
