[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Suh Dong-young] The city of Suwon has decided to conduct a full-scale survey of Saengmyeongssem Church, where COVID-19 confirmed cases have occurred.

As of the 3rd, six church officials and members who attended worship services at Saengmyeongssem Church, located in Mangpo 2-dong, Youngtong-gu, have tested "positive" for COVID-19.

Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young announced in his Facebook post titled "COVID-19. Suwon City Response No. 143" on the 3rd that he will conduct a full-scale survey of COVID-19 infection status among church officials, members, and their families. The city plans to take measures such as specimen collection, clinical testing, and self-quarantine depending on symptoms.

Additionally, Saengmyeongssem Church decided to suspend worship services starting that day and voluntarily close until the situation stabilizes. During the closure period, the city will conduct emergency additional disinfection of the church interior and surrounding areas.

Mayor Yeom appealed, "I earnestly urge all religious institutions and organizations within Suwon City to refrain from gatherings such as worship services, masses, and Buddhist services. In particular, religious meetings and activities held in confined spaces can become a breeding ground for community transmission." He added, "The city will respond swiftly to prevent the cluster infection at Saengmyeongssem Church from spreading. I ask for active cooperation from the officials of Saengmyeongssem Church and all religious leaders in the Suwon area."
