Lee Jae-myung: "Gyeonggi Province Will Spearhead Hanam Line to Expand Regional Transit Network"
[Suwon Ilbo=Park No-hun] Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung stated his commitment to expanding the regional transit network, with the Hanam Line—the first case of a regional transit project led by a metropolitan local government—at the center, during the Hanam Line Phase 1 section opening ceremony held at Misa Station on the 7th.
In attendance were Choi Ki-ju, Chairman of the Metropolitan Area Transit Committee, Kim Sang-ho, Mayor of Hanam City, Choi Jong-yun, National Assembly member, Kim Jin-il, Provincial Council member, Chu Min-gyu, Provincial Council member, and Bang Mi-suk, President of the Hanam City Council, among others.
Governor Lee stated, "The Hanam Line holds special significance as the first regional transit network spearheaded independently by Gyeonggi Province," and added, "I hope it will serve as a means to improve residential and urban environments and enable faster travel."
He continued, "Gyeonggi Province will make continued efforts to expand regional transportation infrastructure such as rail networks," and added, "We will actively cooperate with Seoul and Incheon to create a livable city with the world's most outstanding transportation network."
The Metro Line 5 extension 'Hanam Line Phase 1 section' is a railway line connecting a total of three stations spanning 4.7km from Sangil Station, the terminus of Line 5, through Misa Station to Hanam Pungsan Station, and will commence operations starting with the first service at 5:38 a.m. on the 8th.
Trains consist of one 8-car formation and will operate at approximately 10-minute intervals during rush hours and 12-24 minute intervals during off-peak hours, with an average speed (including station dwell time) of approximately 40 km/h.
Operating hours are from 5:35 a.m. to 12:01 a.m. the next day on weekdays and from 5:38 a.m. to 11:40 p.m. on weekends, based on departure from Hanam Pungsan Station. The base fare is 1,250 won for adults, 720 won for teenagers, and 450 won for children on a transit card.
With the opening of this Phase 1 section, commute times for Gyeonggi Province residents in the Hanam area are expected to improve significantly. The journey from Sangil Station to Hanam Pungsan Station will take 6 minutes 10 seconds, and transferring at Cheonho Station or Jamsil Station will allow travelers to reach Gangnam Station in less than 47 minutes from Hanam Pungsan Station.
Additionally, specialized facilities for station activation have been installed at each stop, including a transit center at Misa Station with parking for 820 bicycles and 144 multipurpose storage lockers for smart mobility devices, and a 'sunken plaza' at Hanam Pungsan Station that can be utilized as a cultural space.
The 'Hanam Line Construction Project' marks the first time a regional local government has undertaken a regional transit project from procurement through construction. The Hanam Line Phase 2 section (Hanam Pungsan Station~Hanam Gundan Mountain Station) is scheduled to open by year-end following comprehensive trial operations.
The ceremony took precautionary measures such as social distancing, mask-wearing, and temperature checks to prevent COVID-19 spread, and the opening ceremony was made viewable to the general public through live streaming on social media without requiring attendance at the venue.
