Suwon Mayor Yeom Tae-young: "Local Governments Must Unite for Decentralization-Oriented Constitutional Revision"

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Seo Dong-young] Yeom Tae-young, mayor of Suwon and chairman of the Good Local Governments Council, said, "Local governments must unite their efforts to move forward with decentralization-oriented constitutional revision."

At the opening remarks of the ‘Good Local Governments Council Gwangju·Jeolla·North Jeolla Policy Conference’ held at Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall on the 16th, Mayor Yeom stated, "President Moon Jae-in also said, ‘We will shift the axis of national development to a region-centered approach,’" and added, "Grassroots politicians must unite to achieve the ‘Phase 2 Fiscal Decentralization’ to strengthen fiscal autonomy and ensure the passage of the comprehensive revision of the Local Autonomy Act."

The policy conference, held under the theme ‘Building Public Confidence Through Sound Local Policies,’ was jointly hosted by the Good Local Governments Council, the National Association of Mayors and Governors, and the Presidential Committee on Balanced National Development, with Gwangju MBC and the Korean Association for Local Government Studies as co-organizers.

The policy conference, which began with Mayor Yeom's opening remarks, continued with presentations of outstanding policies from Gwangju, Jeolla, and North Jeolla municipalities and counties.

Mayor Yeom was elected chairman at the Good Local Governments Council extraordinary general assembly held on the 14th. Founded in 2018, the Good Local Governments Council is an administrative council with 108 basic local governments nationwide as members.
