Suwon Mayor Yom Tae-young: "Local Governments Must Unite for Decentralization-Oriented Constitutional Amendment"

[Suwon Ilbo = Reporter Seo Dong-young] Yom Tae-young, Suwon Mayor and chairman of the Good Local Government Council, said, "Local governments must unite their strength to advance toward a decentralization-oriented constitutional amendment."

At the opening address of the "Good Local Government Council Gwangju·Jeolla·North Jeolla Policy Conference" held at Gwangju Metropolitan City Hall on the 16th, Mayor Yom stated, "President Moon Jae-in also said, 'We will shift the axis of national development to regions,'" adding, "Grassroots politicians must unite their strength to achieve the 'Second Phase Fiscal Decentralization' that strengthens fiscal autonomy, and ensure the passage of the comprehensive amendment to the Local Autonomy Act."

The policy conference, held under the theme of "Strengthen the People with Sound Local Policies," was jointly hosted by the Good Local Government Council, the National Association of Mayors and Governors, and the Presidential Committee on Self-Governing Decentralization, with Gwangju MBC and the Korea Local Autonomy Association serving as joint organizers.

The policy conference, which began with Mayor Yom's opening address, continued with presentations of outstanding policies from cities, counties, and districts in Gwangju, Jeolla, and North Jeolla.

Mayor Yom was elected chairman at the Good Local Government Council's extraordinary general meeting held on the 14th. Founded in 2018, the Good Local Government Council is an administrative council with 108 basic local governments across the nation as members.
