Osan City and Wanju County, North Jeolla Province Sign Mutual Cooperation Agreement

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Osan City and Wanju County in North Jeolla Province signed a mutual cooperation agreement on the 8th at Wanju County Office to promote smooth implementation of cultural city projects.

The agreement ceremony was attended by Osan Mayor Kwak Sang-wook, Wanju County Superintendent Park Sung-il, Cho Yo-han, Representative Director of the Osan Cultural Foundation, Yoo Jong-dae, Director of the Cultural City Center, Lee Sang-duk, Standing Director of the Wanju Cultural Foundation, and Moon Yun-geol, Director of the Wanju Cultural City Support Center, who signed the agreement.

Meanwhile, Wanju County was designated as a second-phase preliminary cultural city along with Osan City, and in last year's evaluation, it was finally selected as the second-phase cultural city under the vision of "a community cultural city where life changes through shared culture," receiving recognition for diverse projects that highlight the region's unique characteristics.

In particular, the culture-specialized district project, which has been in progress since 2016, is noted as an exemplary case that has diligently carried out foundational projects for the cultural city by improving abandoned silkworm warehouses and other eyesores into cultural facilities and transforming the old Samryeok Station into a cultural arts village.

Meanwhile, Osan City is making an all-out effort for the final designation as a cultural city through amendments to the Cultural City Development Ordinance, establishment of the Cultural City Center, capacity-building workshops, and hosting of connection policy forums. Through this cooperation agreement with Wanju County, the city expects the cultural city promotion project to gain further momentum with professional consulting and a cooperation foundation in place.
