Osan City-Wanju County Win-Win Cooperation Agreement Signed

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Osan City and Wanju County in North Jeolla Province signed a win-win cooperation agreement on the 8th at Wanju County Hall to facilitate smooth promotion of the Cultural City project.

The signing ceremony was attended by Osan City Mayor Kwak Sang-wook, Wanju County Governor Park Sung-il, Osan Cultural Foundation Representative Director Cho Yo-han, Cultural City Center Director Yu Jong-dae, Wanju Cultural Foundation Executive Director Lee Sang-duk, and Wanju Cultural City Support Center Director Moon Yun-gyeol, and they executed the agreement.

Meanwhile, Wanju County was designated as the second-phase pilot cultural city together with Osan City and was ultimately selected as the second-phase cultural city after receiving recognition in last year's evaluation for implementing diverse projects that reflect the local characteristics of Wanju County under the vision of "a community cultural city where life changes through shared culture." It has been recognized as an exemplary case that has faithfully implemented foundation projects for cultural city development.

In particular, the culturally specialized district project that has been ongoing since 2016 is regarded as an exemplary case, improving defunct silk storage warehouses that had become eyesores into cultural facilities and transforming the old Samryeye Station into a cultural and arts village, thereby laying the foundation for cultural city development.

Meanwhile, Osan City is making an all-out effort for final designation as a cultural city through amendments to the Cultural City Establishment Ordinance, organization of the Cultural City Center, capacity-strengthening workshops, and hosting of connecting policy forums. Through this cooperation agreement with Wanju County, professional consulting and a cooperation foundation are expected to be established, and the cultural city promotion project is anticipated to gain further momentum.
