Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon and Provincial Assembly Speaker Yeom Jong-hyun to Participate in First Pitch and Catch, Symbolizing Cooperative Governance
[Suwon Ilbo=Park No-hun Reporter] Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon will participate as the first pitch thrower at the home game against the KIA Tigers to be held at KT Wiz Park in Suwon on the 21st.
In particular, the first catch on this day will be handled by Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Speaker Yeom Jong-hyun, reflecting the will for cooperative governance with the provincial assembly.
On the 21st at 5 p.m., Governor Kim will conduct a brief first pitch practice ahead of the KT Wiz vs. KIA Tigers game and then throw a baseball from the stadium grounds.
After completing the first pitch and catch with Speaker Yeom, Governor Kim will watch the game with KBO Commissioner Heo Gu-yeon, KT Sports President and CEO Shin Hyun-ok, Suwon Mayor Lee Jae-jun, and Gyeonggi Province Vice Governor for Economic Affairs Yeom Tae-young.
Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "I am such an enthusiastic baseball fan that I even learned baseball scoring notation in high school and recorded games. I am very much looking forward to the game between the rising powerhouse KT Wiz, which won the championship last year, and the KIA Tigers, a team with a 40-year tradition," and added, "I hope this wonderful game will provide a time of healing for residents of the province who are going through difficult times due to COVID-19 and economic crisis."
Meanwhile, since 2019, Gyeonggi Province has been operating the 'Independent Baseball League Gyeonggi Province League,' which provides opportunities for players who failed to advance to the professional level or retired players to make a comeback. Over the past four years, the province has advanced a total of 17 players to the professional level and is conducting projects to revitalize baseball in Gyeonggi Province.
