Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City Begins 2024 New Year Schedule with Homage to Veterans Memorial

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park No-hun] Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City began his New Year schedule for the eighth civil administration term with a homage to the Veterans Memorial Tower.

The mayor visited Yongin Central Park in Cheorin-gu, Namdong on the morning of the 1st to pay homage at the memorial.

The homage ceremony was attended by approximately 90 people including the mayor, Yi Won-gyun, chairman of the Yongin Special City Council, Lee Tan-hee, member of the National Assembly, Yeom Jeong-rim, director of the Gyeonggi East Regional Veterans Administration, local veterans organization leaders, city and provincial council members, and senior officials of Yongin Special City.

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "North Korea, which has engaged in continued provocations over the past year, is displaying behavior that threatens peace on the Korean Peninsula by launching ballistic missiles from the very beginning of the new year and with Kim Jong-un stating he will exponentially increase nuclear warheads." He added, "At such a time, we must deeply honor the noble aspirations of those who sacrificed their lives for the nation and the national heroes, and we need a firm resolve and readiness to protect this nation's free democratic system."

The mayor further stated, "I am committed to working earnestly in the new year to realize the vision of 'Building a Future Together, Yongin Renaissance' that I presented upon taking office," and called upon all civil servants of Yongin Special City to "dedicate themselves to the development of the city and the improvement of citizens' quality of life with a renewed determination."
