Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il: "Civil Servants' 'I'll Give It a Try' Attitude is the Expression of Proactive Administration"

Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il emphasized at an executive officials meeting held in the city hall video conference room on the 22nd that civil servants should actively step forward with the mindset of treating tasks as ‘my work’ rather than drawing boundaries between departments, and maintain emergency response systems for citizen safety during the Chuseok holiday period.

The mayor stated, “What I always emphasize in city administration is proactive administration,” and added, “When promoting new projects, it is a natural process for departments and related organizations to consult with each other and discuss in detail how to carry out tasks.”

The mayor said, “I hope each civil servant will view new projects as ‘my work’ and take active steps,” and continued, “Rather than saying ‘I can’t do this work,’ ‘I can’t do it’ because there is existing work, I ask that you approach new tasks with the attitude of ‘I will give it a try. I would appreciate it if you could help with these aspects.’”

The mayor further stated, “Please carefully review the emergency response system once more so that citizens can spend the Chuseok holiday safely and comfortably,” and requested, “If any emergency situations or citizen inconveniences occur, please promptly grasp the situation and take necessary measures to minimize citizen inconvenience.”

At the meeting, discussions covered measures to stimulate the common people’s economy before Chuseok, and took as major agenda items the implementation direction of the ‘Yongin Central Market Vitalization Project’ and ‘Jung-ang-dong Urban Regeneration Project’ to invigorate the area around Yongin Central Market.

Regarding the ‘Yongin Central Market Vitalization Project,’ discussions focused on developing the market beyond simply a place to buy agricultural products and leave into a ‘stay-type tourist market’ where visitors enjoy food, culture, performances, and night markets while spending extended time.

The mayor stated, “It is important that the central market vitalization plan leads to the market’s sustained development rather than being a one-off event,” and added, “Please continue to research content that can highlight the central market’s unique characteristics and implement practical vitalization plans while communicating sufficiently with merchants.”

The city also reviewed the implementation status of the ‘Jung-ang-dong Urban Regeneration Project’ to vitalize the central market. The city is pushing forward with major projects including the construction of a parking tower ‘Smart Work Platform’ to resolve parking issues for citizens using the central market, underground placement of utility and telecommunications poles, and the creation of a market play plaza and splash fountain.

The city plans to organically link the Yongin Central Market Vitalization Project and the Jung-ang-dong Urban Regeneration Project to invigorate the central market and surrounding areas and enhance the competitiveness of the local commercial district.
