Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City Participates in Traffic Safety Volunteer Work at Neungwon Elementary School and Receives Heartfelt Letters

On the morning of the 17th, Mayor Lee Sang-il of Yongin Special City visited Neungwon Elementary School in Mohyeon-eup, Choin-gu, to participate in a safe commute campaign and traffic safety volunteer work.

The traffic guidance and campaign were attended by Mayor Lee Sang-il, Principal Kim Eun-hee of Neungwon Elementary School, members of the Yongin Dongbu Green Mothers Association, and representatives from the Neungwon Elementary parent-teacher association.

The mayor guided students to safely cross at crosswalks and drop-off zones, then met with parents and school officials to discuss necessary support for creating a safe school commute route and improving the educational environment.

At this meeting, students, parents, and school officials of Neungwon Elementary expressed their gratitude to Mayor Lee Sang-il and city officials for their exceptional attention to creating a drop-off zone in front of the main gate and their efforts to protect student safety.

Additionally, students of Neungwon Elementary presented handwritten letters and a poetry and artwork collection to Mayor Lee Sang-il, conveying their sincere appreciation.

The poetry and artwork collection created by students consisted of poems and drawings expressing students' feelings about their school commute environment, with titles such as 'Safe School Commute,' 'Improved Roads,' and 'Our Safe School.'

The handwritten letters pressed by students expressed gratitude toward Mayor Lee Sang-il for his dedication to creating a safe school commute route.

Mayor Lee Sang-il said, "Today I received an unexpected and touching gift from Neungwon Elementary School," and added, "As mayor of Yongin Special City, I have done what is necessary for city officials and students, and I will continue to create a safe educational environment for students going forward."

Lim Ha-yeon, a student at Neungwon Elementary School, expressed gratitude, saying, "Thanks to Mayor Lee Sang-il, a drop-off zone has been created in front of Neungwon Elementary's main gate, and students can now commute more safely."

Before the drop-off zone was created, the area in front of Neungwon Elementary's main gate had narrow roads where traffic congestion occurred when many vehicles gathered, and there was insufficient space for students to safely enter and exit vehicles.

Last September, Mayor Lee Sang-il heard suggestions about creating a drop-off zone from parent representatives of elementary schools in the Choin-gu area at a meeting, and instructed city officials to quickly seek solutions.

Additionally, in December of the same year, the mayor visited Neungwon Elementary School in person to observe the site and proposed a plan to create a drop-off zone by utilizing part of the school grounds.
