Kim Dong-yeon: "I Will Help Busan Attract Expo Beyond Political Divides"

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Nohoon] Gyeonggi Governor Kim Dong-yeon announced that he will help attract the Busan Expo "beyond political divides."

Governor Kim stated through SNS, "Many foreign nationals live in Gyeonggi Province. They account for over 32% of the national total, numbering 400,000 people from 174 countries," and explained specific methods, saying "I will actively promote the significance and strengths of the Busan Expo to foreign residents through various promotional channels within the province."

He continued, "I will also mobilize my personal global network," adding, "I met many overseas economic leaders while working at the World Bank in Washington and as Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs. Meetings of former finance ministers continue regularly."

Governor Kim emphasized, "The Busan Expo is not an event for Busan city alone, but a national event for South Korea. We will unite across city and provincial boundaries, transcending political divides, with Global Gyeonggi standing together."

The 4th "Central-Local Cooperation Conference" was held in Busan.

The enthusiasm for attracting the 2030 Expo in Busan is very high.

I will mobilize all of Gyeonggi Province's global capabilities to support attracting the Busan Expo, a national diplomatic initiative.

First, I will promote it to CEOs of leading companies I have met while attracting foreign investment, as well as to diplomatic missions in Korea and members of Chambers of Commerce and Industry with which we actively maintain relations.

Starting immediately, I will invite more diplomatic missions in Korea to the "DMZ Walking Festival" to be held next month compared to last year, and actively promote the Expo while walking together.

Looking at Gyeonggi Province as a whole, we maintain exchanges with over 250 overseas local governments through friendly cooperation or sister city relationships. I will actively utilize these cooperative relationships.

This weekend, I will make my first overseas trip to the United States and Japan since taking office as governor. While meeting with major figures in both countries, I will also attend the World OKTA (Korean American Association of World Trade) General Assembly held in Japan. I will ensure that Korean companies affiliated with OKTA, which operates in 67 countries and 142 cities, contribute their strength to attracting the Expo.
