[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City Mayor Lee Jae-jun stated, "If the adult festival event proceeds, we will not hesitate to enforce administrative execution."

Mayor Lee presided over a 'Countermeasures Meeting Opposing Adult Festival Event' held at the city hall situation room on the 29th, saying, "Today (March 29th), we will send an official document requesting cancellation of the event to Suwon Messe, the planned venue for the adult festival," and "If the organizers do not cancel and forcibly proceed with the event, we will prevent the event through administrative execution."

He further stated, "We will establish grounds through ordinance enactment to prevent harmful events for youth that circumvent legal frameworks, and urge the government to amend related laws. Currently, a petition demanding suspension of the adult festival event has been posted on the 'National Assembly Citizens Petition' board. If 50,000 or more people agree, it will be referred to the relevant National Assembly committee," he explained.

He then urged, "As related laws are amended promptly to prevent such incidents from happening again, we ask many people to participate in the petition."

An adult content production company plans to hold an adult festival (2024 KXF The Fashion) at Suwon Messe, a private exhibition hall, on April 20-21. As Suwon Messe, where the event will be held, is less than 50 meters in a straight line from Seopyeong Elementary School, parents and civic groups are strongly demanding the event be withdrawn.

On March 21st, on the 'National Assembly Citizens Petition' board, an author identified as a 'Suwon Citizen' appealed, "There is an elementary school just 50 meters away from Suwon Messe where an event no different from quasi-prostitution is being held," and asked, "For the sake of our growing children, we urge citizens to unite so that an event treating sex as something to be bought and sold with money does not take place."

As of 3 p.m. on the 29th, approximately 21,200 people had agreed with the petition. If 50,000 people agree by April 20th, it will be referred to the relevant National Assembly committee.

Attending the meeting were Kim Sun-kyung, superintendent of Suwon Office of Education, Kim Jae-gwang, chief of Suwon Western Police Station, the parent association chair of Seopyeong Elementary School, the chairperson of the Suwon Western Elementary and Secondary School Parents Police Federation, civic groups, Lee Jong-chung, chief of Suwon Southern Fire Station, Suwon City Council members Lee Dae-sun and Kim So-jin, and Hwang Dae-ho, vice chairperson of the Gyeonggi Province Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, among others.

Meeting participants agreed to work closely to prevent the adult festival event and improve the youth-harmful environment.
