Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il Requests Transfer of Industrial Complex Review Authority from Governor Kim Dong-yeon

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Choi Ki-ho] Yongin Mayor Lee Sang-il met with Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon on the 12th to request Gyeonggi Province's support for resolving Yongin's key issues, including the transfer of authority over local industrial complex reviews, and submitted related materials.

Mayor Lee's visit to Governor Kim came as the government plans to construct the 'Yongin Advanced System Semiconductor National Industrial Complex' with six Samsung Electronics semiconductor production facilities (Fabs) on 2.26 million pyeong in Cheoin-gu, Idong and Namsa-eup, and aims to develop a 'semiconductor-specialized new city' with 16,000 households on 690,000 pyeong in Idong-eup as a satellite city where IT talents would reside. The meeting was held to request Gyeonggi Province's cooperation and support to smoothly proceed with these mega-projects.

At this meeting, Mayor Lee emphasized that transferring Gyeonggi Province's authority over local industrial complex plans to Yongin City, which is the approval authority, would enable the city to quickly verify various companies wishing to locate near the national industrial complex and facilitate smooth relocation.

Mayor Lee stated, "Gyeonggi Province's review of the Giheung Future City Advanced Industrial Complex, Jukneung General Industrial Complex, and others has been delayed, causing disruptions in various projects to strengthen semiconductor competitiveness." He added, "I request that Gyeonggi Province consider transferring the authority over industrial complex reviews to Yongin, a special city, so that Yongin, as the approval authority, can conduct reviews with responsibility. This will solidify the industrial ecosystem for semiconductor production through the concentration of semiconductor anchor companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix and their cooperation complexes."

Mayor Lee also conveyed concerns from residents of Seongbok-dong, Suji-gu, Yongin City regarding the relocation of the Gwanggyo residential complex power transmission tower and requested Governor Kim's assistance.

Mayor Lee stated, "Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Development Corporation (GH) proceeding with the tower relocation according to the wishes of the relevant apartment residents in Suwon City is something that neither Yongin City nor Seongbok-dong residents can accept. I hope Gyeonggi Province understands this well."

Additionally, Mayor Lee said, "I have requested that Gyeonggi Province expand and newly construct four routes and nine sections, including Provincial Route 321, which connect to the semiconductor national industrial complex in Cheoin-gu's Idong and Namsa-eup. I propose that the province actively consider adopting the city's road network expansion plan to alleviate chronic traffic congestion on roads connecting semiconductor hubs."

Furthermore, Mayor Lee emphasized the prompt implementation of Gogigyo Bridge reconstruction and surrounding road network expansion projects and requested the province's cooperation.

Mayor Lee stated, "I request that Gyeonggi Province expedite the completion of the basic river plan, which is a preliminary procedure for Gogigyo Bridge reconstruction, to prevent the bridge from flooding and to provide traffic convenience for both Yongin and Seongnam citizens."

Mayor Lee noted that Yongin City has applied for a Gyeonggi Province-type urban regeneration project (50% provincial funding, 50% city funding) to develop a 61,000㎡ area in Guseong and Mabuk districts as a space for history and cultural arts experience, and requested Governor Kim's attention and support.

\r\n\r\n

Through the submitted materials, Mayor Lee stated, "We will create a space of history and cultural arts in the Guseong and Mabuk districts, allowing residents to plan and experience culture and festivals to enhance their quality of life." The results of the application are scheduled to be announced in June.

\r\n\r\n

In response, Governor Kim Dong-yeon said, "I will carefully review your remarks and materials, and will sincerely consider and support matters that the province can assist with regarding the road network expansion, urban regeneration, and other current issues."
