Yongin City Applies for WHO 'Age-Friendly City International Network' Membership

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Choi Ki-ho] Yongin Special City announced on the 7th that it has applied for membership in the 'World Health Organization (WHO) Age-Friendly City International Network' to create a city where all citizens can be happy regardless of age.

The city established a 'basic plan for age-friendly city development' to address problems that may arise in an aging society and proceeded with the certification process for the age-friendly city international network. Through this, the city plans to promote social integration between generations and work to build a city created together by citizens and establish systematic welfare policies.

In 2022, the city enacted ordinances for age-friendly city development, and last year conducted research projects on 'age-friendly city international network certification promotion' in collaboration with the Yongin City Research Institute.

Based on the research results, the city established the slogan 'A special future created together, Yongin Special City' and set three major goals: △creating a living environment where all citizens can feel safe and secure △realizing social integration where mutual understanding between generations and respect for seniors are achieved △building a welfare system for healthy and comfortable retirement.

For seniors in the region, the city plans to implement a total of 55 projects over three years, including △expansion of job opportunities for seniors △creation of AR sports experience spaces △customized care services for seniors △support projects for seniors with dementia △operation of an age-friendly city monitoring group △on-site repair services for single elderly households.

Upon completion of the age-friendly city international network membership process, the city expects to obtain age-friendly city certification in September.

A city official stated, "Going forward, we will establish customized policies reflecting diverse opinions from citizens and make efforts to create an age-friendly city where all citizens can be happy."
