Suwon's 'Maehyangsamo' Donates First-Harvested Green Onions to Yeonmujeong Meal Center
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Chung-young] The 'Association Loving Maehyang-dong (hereinafter Maehyangsamo)' donated green onions it had personally cultivated and harvested to the Yeonmujeong Meal Center on the 29th.
Last March, 'Maehyangsamo' created a village farm on about 300 pyeong of idle land at Samil Technical High School, where 23 people—including 17 village residents and 6 teachers—have been planting various vegetables and cultivating the plot.
On this day, the harvested green onions were donated on behalf of the group by member Kim Ji-eun, who runs the Bangbang Cafe in Maehyang-dong.
Meanwhile, the Yeonmujeong Meal Center was featured in a Suwon Ilbo article dated May 6, 2024, titled '<[Feature] The Suwon Yeonmujeong Meal Center's 12 Years of Continuous 'Side Dish Volunteering'>.'
The Yeonmujeong Meal Center began its activities in February 2012, when six volunteers who shared the same hobby at the Suwon Yeonmujeong (archery range) secured a shop of about 5 pyeong and started sharing side dishes for around 10 people. It has now grown into an organization where about 90 volunteers provide side dish services for around 100 people.
The Yeonmujeong Meal Center currently provides side dish services to about 100 people at the members' own expense.
Song Jong, chairperson of Maehyangsamo, expressed a wish to continue supplying surplus farm produce to the Yeonmujeong Meal Center in the future.
Lee Eung-ja, representative of the Yeonmujeong Meal Center, expressed her gratitude, saying, "It feels like all the difficult moments have been rewarded in an instant."
