Icheon City to Establish 'Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center' to Foster Advanced Industries
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Icheon City announced on the 14th that it has decided to establish a 'Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center' to foster future advanced industries as it leaps toward becoming the hub of South Korea's drone industry.
To this end, the city established the Future City Department last November to support Icheon as an advanced industrial city and is making an all-out effort to develop future industries including digital twin, drones, mobility, and defense industry. Additionally, through collaboration with the Army Information School and other organizations, the city is also building an image of Icheon as an advanced drone industrial city.
The city is also focusing on establishing the Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center, a campaign pledge of the eighth popularly elected administration, to lay the foundation for the high-value-added robot and drone sectors.
On the 9th, the city was selected in the 'Second Public Recruitment Project for School Complex Facilities' overseen by the Ministry of Education, and plans to construct a complex facility on the site of closed Jinga Elementary School in Moga-myeon. The facility will comprise a Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center, a Water Safety Experience Center (including a swimming pool), an Naeul School, and a Digital Lab.
The city plans to develop infrastructure at the Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center, including ▲Robot and Drone Experience Center ▲Robot and Drone Training Facility ▲Indoor Drone Practice Field ▲Drone Control Center ▲Shared Office, and will discover and nurture prospective entrepreneurs, while supporting the growth and development of drone companies to establish a foundation for the drone industry.
Additionally, the city is promoting the construction of a test site at the Cheongmi Stream embankment for prototype testing and technological development of manned and unmanned aircraft, and plans to focus on creating infrastructure that can be utilized not only by companies within Icheon but also by companies from other regions.
Icheon Mayor Kim Gyeong-hee stated, "We will create infrastructure for the drone industry, a core industry of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, and make Icheon a hub for fostering advanced industries," adding "We will concentrate on high-value-added advanced industries to nurture talented young people and related companies, creating a smart city of Icheon overflowing with jobs in the cutting-edge technology sector."
