Icheon City Establishes 'Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center' to Foster Future Advanced Industries
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Icheon City announced on the 14th that it has decided to establish a 'Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center' to foster future advanced industries and emerge as the center of South Korea's drone industry.
To this end, the city established a Future City Department in November of last year for Icheon as an advanced industrial city and is making all-out efforts to discover future industries including digital twin, drones, mobility, and defense industries. Additionally, the city is building an image of an advanced drone industrial city through collaboration with organizations such as the Army Information School.
Furthermore, to lay the foundation for the high-value-added robot and drone sectors, the city is focusing on the construction of a Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center, a key campaign project of the 8th civilian administration.
Accordingly, on the 9th, the city was selected in the 'School Complex Facility Second Public Contest' overseen by the Ministry of Education. The city plans to construct a complex facility consisting of a Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center, a Water Safety Experience Hall (including swimming pool), an Everbloom School, and a Digital Lab on the site of the closed Jinga Elementary School in Moga-myeon.
The city plans to build infrastructure in the Robot and Drone Industry Startup Support Center including ▲Robot and Drone Experience Hall ▲Robot and Drone Training Center ▲Indoor Drone Practice Field ▲Drone Control Center ▲Shared Office, and will discover and nurture prospective entrepreneurs while supporting the growth and development of drone companies to establish the foundation for the drone industry.
Additionally, the city is promoting the construction of a test site on the Cheongmicheon levee for prototype demonstration and technological development of manned and unmanned aircraft, and plans to devote considerable effort to creating infrastructure that can be utilized not only by companies within Icheon City but also by enterprises from other regions.
Icheon City Mayor Kim Kyung-hee stated, "We will create infrastructure for the drone industry, a core industry of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, to make Icheon a hub for fostering advanced industries," and added, "We will concentrate on high-value-added advanced industries to nurture young talent and related companies, making Icheon a smart city abundant with jobs in the field of advanced technology."
