Jeonam Province Governor Kim Young-rok Becomes 'Honorary Governor of Gyeonggi Province for a Day'
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Kim Gab-dong] Jeonam Province Governor Kim Young-rok served as 'Honorary Governor of Gyeonggi Province for a Day' at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government building on the 23rd at the proposal of Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Dong-yeon.
At 10 a.m. that morning, Governor Kim Dong-yeon welcomed Governor Kim Young-rok and his delegation at the lobby of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government building and presented him with an 'Honorary Gyeonggi Province Governor Certificate.'
Subsequently, Governor Kim Young-rok, presiding as honorary governor, held a 'Joint Executive Meeting (Gyeonggi Province-Jeonam Province)' where he received work reports from Gyeonggi Province executives and then approved the 'Expansion of Eco-friendly Agricultural Products Contract Cultivation between Gyeonggi Province and Jeonam Province' as the first approval of the honorary governor. This is a plan to increase the supply of Jeonam Province agricultural products such as potatoes, melons, onions, cabbage, kimchi vegetables, strawberries, tomatoes, and bananas to school meals in Gyeonggi Province.
Specifically, the plan is to increase the current supply of 69 tons as of July this year to 200 tons next year, 300 tons in 2026, 400 tons in 2027, and 500 tons in 2028, expanding by 100 tons each year.
Regarding Governor Kim Young-rok's 'Honorary Governor of Gyeonggi Province for a Day,' Governor Kim Dong-yeon introduced his connection with Governor Kim Young-rok, who was the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry when he was deputy prime minister for the economy, and said, "I requested Governor Kim Young-rok to serve as an honorary governor for a day, and he gladly accepted, so I was able to welcome him," expressing his gratitude.
Governor Kim Dong-yeon continued, "When I left my position as deputy prime minister for the economy and traveled throughout the country, the first place I visited and stayed the longest was Wando, Jeonam Province," and said, "I have long thought that we owe a great debt to Jeonam Province in pre-modern and modern history."
He then gave examples, saying, "In modern history, Jeonam Province is the place that made the greatest sacrifices and dedication for democratization, and going further back, it is the place that defended the nation during the Imjin War." He then said, "I hope that through Governor Kim Young-rok's one-day governorship, Gyeonggi Province and Jeonam Province will engage in greatly expanded mutual prosperity."
Governor Kim Young-rok responded, "I am grateful and honored that the Gyeonggi Province Governor, whom I have always deeply respected, has proposed that I serve as an honorary governor of Gyeonggi Province with a population of 14 million," and said, "I will make efforts so that Jeonam Province and Gyeonggi Province can create a new model moving forward together in mutual cooperation and prosperity."
Jeonam Province's eco-friendly agricultural products have enriched the dining tables of Gyeonggi Province residents. In addition to utilizing Jeonam Province agricultural products widely in school meals in Gyeonggi Province since last year, the <Market Gyeonggi: Gyeonggi-Jeonam Mutual Prosperity Corner> is selling agricultural products as well as Sinan sea eel, Wando abalone, Haenam seaweed, and Naju melons. Jindo sea mustard that suffered flood damage has been served in the cafeterias of Gyeonggi Province and public institutions.
