75.7% of Uiwang Citizens Approve of City Administration in First Half of Eighth Mayoral Term

[Suwon Ilbo=Kim Chung-young Reporter] More than seven out of ten Uiwang citizens (75.7%) have positively evaluated the city administration of the eighth mayoral term.

According to Uiwang City on the 24th, as it entered the third year of the eighth mayoral term, the city conducted a public opinion survey on city administration satisfaction to review the administration so far and use it as a reference for future city administration.

The survey items consisted of eighth mayoral term administration evaluation, residential satisfaction, and future development potential, along with surveys on evaluation of major projects and future priority initiatives.

In the evaluation of Mayor Kim Sung-je's two-year city administration during the eighth mayoral term, positive assessments of "doing very well" (16.4%) and "generally doing well" (59.3%) reached 75.7%, showing figures exceeding three times the negative assessment (24.3%).

Citizens' high evaluation of the eighth mayoral term administration is interpreted as a result of positive effects from urban development and residential environment improvement, creation of a safe urban environment and implementation of various welfare policies that citizens can feel, and the groundbreaking of the double-track railway through Uiwang City that will provide new growth momentum.

Citizens cited railway network construction projects including the Indong Line, Wolpan Line, and GTX-C (34.7%) as the best performing projects, showing strong preference for welfare policies such as free senior bus rides and postpartum care subsidies (16.8%), and citizen convenience projects such as barefoot walking paths and heated/cooled seats at bus stops (11.2%).

In the residential satisfaction category, 85.3% of respondents answered they were "satisfied," supporting the result that Uiwang City is a desirable city to live in, with pleasant natural environment (41.4%) being the highest reason for residential satisfaction, followed by convenient roads and transportation infrastructure (23.2%), and continuous urban development and growth (15.1%).

Meanwhile, reasons for residential dissatisfaction were cited as traffic congestion and inconvenient public transportation (40.1%) and lack of cultural and leisure and commercial facilities (15.1%), indicating a need for improvements in public transportation and expansion of cultural and leisure facilities.

Regarding future development potential for Uiwang City, 88.4% of respondents gave positive evaluations, and priority tasks for Uiwang City to develop into a livable city were railway network expansion including extension of the Wiryae-Gwacheon Line to Uiwang reflected in Gyeonggi Province's railroad master plan in April this year (26.9%) and recruitment of medical institutions such as general hospitals (20.5%), confirming citizens' strong desire for new railway network construction and general hospital recruitment.

Mayor Kim Sung-je of Uiwang City stated, "This survey provided a good opportunity to confirm citizens' perception of city administration and understand citizens' expectations for Uiwang City's development," and added, "I will focus on further developing the projects preferred by citizens and supplementing areas where they feel inadequate to create Uiwang, the most livable city in the nation."

Meanwhile, this survey was commissioned by Uiwang City to Daily Research, a public opinion survey specialist, conducted from August 6-10 targeting 600 Uiwang citizens using landline telephone ARS and mobile web at a 5:5 ratio, with a sampling error of ±4.0%P at the 95% confidence level.
