Yeoju City Receives Commendation from Korea Forest Service for Exemplary Landslide Disaster Prevention Efforts, First in Gyeonggi Province

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Um In-yong] Yeoju City announced on the 7th that it received an institutional commendation for exemplary landslide prevention efforts at the '45th Landslide Prevention Conference' hosted by the Korea Forest Service held on the 4th and 5th, becoming the first organization in Gyeonggi Province to receive recognition for 'landslide disaster prevention.'

Yeoju City has been implementing initiatives to protect citizens' lives from landslides, including producing its own 'Vulnerable Landslide Areas Guide Map (Citizen Edition),' 'Vulnerable Landslide Areas Designation Comprehensive Guide (Official Edition),' installing landslide-prone area signage, and conducting pre-evacuation drills combining discussion and on-site training on a nationwide first-of-its-kind basis.

As a result, the city was selected by the Korea Forest Service and Gyeonggi Province Office as an exemplary case in landslide prevention, presented to local governments nationwide, and has devoted considerable efforts to strengthening the job competency of eup, myeon, and dong-level staff as well as improving citizens' response capabilities against landslides.
