Icheon Selected for '2025 Green Fund Project'...Another Achievement
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Icheon City announced on the 24th that it has been selected as a project site for the '2025 Green Fund Forest Welfare Urban Forest Barrier-Free Environment Project' and has secured 400 million won in project funds.
This achievement follows the completion of the 2024 Hot Spring Park Barrier-Free Sharing Path Project, with Jinam Park in Janghoweon-eup, the center of Icheon's southern region, being selected once again as a target site for the green fund project next year.
The project, hosted by the Korea Forest Welfare Promotion Institute under the Korea Forest Service, is conducted using lottery revenues and other sources to protect forest environments and enhance forest functions. Icheon City plans to invest a total project budget of 800 million won—400 million won in green funds combined with 400 million won in city funds—at Jinam Park in Janghoweon-eup to implement the 'Forest Welfare Urban Forest Barrier-Free Environment Project.'
The forest welfare urban forest barrier-free environment project aims to minimize forest damage and disaster risks while providing barrier-free access environments to people with disabilities and the elderly by removing mobility obstacles and improving facilities at existing parks, thereby supporting safe urban forest experience activities.
The city plans to apply Universal Design (UD) to Jinam Park, which receives high citizen usage, by linking it with this green fund support project and improving convenience to Barrier-Free (BF) standards, thereby providing walking-impaired individuals with the pleasure of visiting parks and access to nature in the urban setting.
Mayor Kim Gyeong-hee stated, "Through the forest welfare urban forest barrier-free environment project at Jinam Park, the center of the southern region, we will create a new rest space especially for walking-impaired citizens and accelerate the creation of an eco-friendly green city, one of the policy tasks of the 8th civilian-led administration."
