Icheon City Selected for '2025 Green Fund Public Project'...Another Major Achievement

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Icheon City announced on the 24th that it has been selected as a project site for the '2025 Green Fund Forest Welfare Urban Park Barrier-Free Environment Creation Project' and secured 400 million won in project funds.

Following the completion of the Oncheon Park Barrier-Free Sharing Path creation project selected in the 2024 public project competition, Jinham Park in Janghoron-eup, the central hub of southern Icheon, has achieved another major accomplishment by being selected as a project site for the green fund public project again next year.

This public project, hosted by the Korea Forest Welfare Promotion Institute under the Korea Forest Service, is conducted using lottery proceeds as funding to protect forest environments and enhance forest functions. Icheon City plans to invest a total of 800 million won—400 million won in green funds combined with 400 million won in city budget—in Jinham Park in Janghoron-eup to implement the 'Forest Welfare Urban Park Barrier-Free Environment Creation Project.'

The forest welfare urban park barrier-free environment creation aims to minimize forest damage and disaster risks, and to provide barrier-free access environments for people with disabilities, the elderly, and other mobility-challenged individuals by removing walking obstacles and maintaining facilities in existing parks, thereby supporting safe urban forest experience activities.

The city plans to apply universal design (UD) to Jinham Park, which is heavily used by citizens, in connection with this green fund support project, and through convenience improvements at the level of barrier-free living environments (BF), will provide mobility-challenged residents with the joy of visiting parks and access to nature in the urban environment.

Icheon City Mayor Kim Kyung-hee stated, "Through the forest welfare urban park barrier-free environment creation at Jinham Park, the central hub of the southern region, we will create a new resting place for citizens, especially those with mobility challenges, and accelerate the creation of an eco-friendly green city, one of the policy priorities of the 8th mayoral administration."
