Pyeongtaek Designates Cheongbuk Furniture Complex as First Shopping District

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Park Chan-hyuk] Pyeongtaek City designated Cheongbuk Furniture Complex as the 'First Shopping District' on the 18th to revitalize alley commerce and support small business owners, and delivered the designation certificate.

Cheongbuk Furniture Complex was established in Cheongbuk-eup in 2011 and currently has some 30 furniture stores concentrated in the area. However, it has faced difficulties including reduced sales due to recent economic downturn and the impact of nearby foreign brand large-scale furniture retailers.

Through this shopping district designation, Cheongbuk Furniture Complex can now register as an Onnuri Gift Card member store, and can apply for various public projects such as business environment improvement and facility support, allowing it to receive benefits equivalent to those of traditional markets.

Shopping districts can be designated as areas where 30 or more wholesale shops, retail shops, or service shops are concentrated within a certain range of street or underground passage according to the 'Special Law for the Development of Traditional Markets and Shopping Districts' and the 'Distribution Industry Development Act'.

Mayor Jung Jang-seon stated, "I find it very meaningful that Cheongbuk Furniture Complex has been designated as the first shopping district," and added, "Going forward, I will work to revitalize local commercial areas through the discovery and support of shopping districts and alley-type shops."
