[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Guri City announced on the 19th that it received the grand prize in the basic municipal division at the '2025 Korea Innovation Company (Institution/Individual) Brand Awards' ceremony held at the Seoul Press Center on the 16th.
The city has established four major city governance policies centered on "Pleasant Change, a Happier Guri City," the governing philosophy of the 8th civilian-elected administration: △an economically vibrant city where people enjoy living △a happy city of shared prosperity △a smart future city △a young city centered on culture. The city has realized innovative policies that materialized these goals.
Among these, smart administration utilizing digital technology, flexible and responsive services centered on empathy and communication, and urban space innovation achieving harmony between ecology and economy received high evaluations. These included the establishment of a real-time response system in case of missing persons among socially vulnerable populations such as people with developmental disabilities and elderly people with dementia through the introduction of an AI-based CCTV control system.
Meanwhile, the city is also pursuing in stages mid-to-long-term projects for sustainable urban structure transition, including the ecological river restoration project of the Inchang Stream transforming into sustainable green infrastructure, the Guri Topyeong 2 Public Housing District being developed as a smart green city, and the Guri Northern District (Sano-dong area) Techno Valley complex development.
Mayor Baek Kyung-hyun said, "This award is an achievement of citizen-centered communication and empathetic administration to create 'a new growth, more happiness through challenge and change in Guri City,'" and added, "Going forward, we will not fear change and challenge, and will pursue sustainable development of Guri City through various administrative innovations."
