Yongin City Provides 1.611 Billion Won to Prevent Livestock Damage from Heat Waves

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Choi Ki-ho] Yongin Special City announced on the 13th that it has prepared a support package worth a total of 1.611 billion won and is taking proactive measures to reduce damage to livestock farms caused by heat waves.

As climate change has caused heat waves to begin earlier than usual and persist for longer periods, increasing the risk of livestock deaths, the city has prepared preemptive countermeasures.

The city is providing livestock farms with △support for heat wave prevention facilities including ventilation, cooling systems, mist spray devices, and thermal insulation construction in barns (39 locations, 533 million won) △supply of livestock immune supplements (230 locations, 58 million won) △livestock disaster insurance enrollment (180 locations, 1.02 billion won) to prevent livestock farm damage from heat waves.

Farms wishing to receive support can inquire at their respective administrative welfare centers in their eup, myeon, or dong. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

The city also emphasizes that securing adequate breeding area for livestock, supplying fresh and cool water, and managing ventilation in barns are particularly important in heat wave-vulnerable livestock environments, and urges farmers to promptly report any damage to the city or district office (eup, myeon, dong administrative welfare center).

Mayor Lee Sang-il stated, "As livestock damage is a concern due to continuing heat waves, thorough preparation by livestock farms is more important than ever," and added, "The city will do its best to help ensure that significant damage does not occur to livestock farms."
