Anyang City Wins 'Smart City Award' at World Smart City Expo for Second Consecutive Year
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Eom In-yong] Anyang City has proven its competitiveness in smart cities by winning the 'Smart City Award' for the second consecutive year at the 'World Smart City Expo (WSCE)', an international smart city exhibition attended by governments, enterprises, and experts from around the world.
According to the city on the 18th, the '2025 World Smart City Expo (WSCE 2025)', jointly hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the Ministry of Science and ICT, is a venue for sharing technologies and policies for solving urban issues. The expo was held from the 15th to the 17th at BEXCO in Busan.
The city received the Smart City Award on the 17th, the last day of the expo, alongside Ulsan Metropolitan City and Busan Metropolitan City.
The city received high acclaim for its outstanding achievements, including effectively integrating cutting-edge technology into administration, presenting an exemplary smart city model led by the local government, and demonstrating sustainable and effective policy implementation capabilities.
In particular, the city's efforts to establish a comprehensive urban safety management system with the Smart City Integrated Center as the control tower, operate autonomous buses, and continuously expand citizen-oriented smart city services such as artificial intelligence (AI)-based real-time traffic signal control were highly evaluated.
The city was also recognized as an excellent case of citizen participation-based initiatives for providing citizens with opportunities to directly experience fourth industrial revolution technology through a promotional experience hall within the Smart City Integrated Center, enabling citizens to more easily understand and empathize with the concept of smart cities.
At the awards ceremony, Mayor Choi Dae-ho stated, "This award demonstrates that Anyang City's policies are realizing the direction of sustainable urban innovation beyond simply introducing technology," and added, "Going forward, through the integration of cutting-edge technology and administration, we will implement a smart Anyang where citizens are happy and create a better urban future that all can experience."
