Yeoju Selected as One of Nation's Top 10 Excellent Local Governments with Strong Resilience

[Suwon Ilbo=Um In-yong] Yeoju was selected as one of the nation's "Top 10 Excellent Local Governments" by the Hankyoreh Institute for Economic and Social Research on the 30th.

The Hankyoreh Institute for Economic and Social Research conducted research and evaluation of 226 local governments nationwide to discover regional models with "regional resilience."

The major policies of Yeoju that received favorable reviews in this research include △creating economic spillover effects through the Yongin Semiconductor Cluster agreement △promoting new general industrial complexes including semiconductors to attract businesses and create jobs △revitalizing traditional markets by registering the "Yeoju Oil Market" as an official market, modernizing facilities, and implementing various programs △providing business development funding to foster Yeoju-style preliminary social economy enterprises △allocating 14.3 billion won to senior employment and social activity support projects △providing productive retirement life support for 3,670 seniors △offering psychological counseling for citizens' mental health through the Heart Investment Support Project △expanding education and cultural infrastructure by establishing new youth training centers and school complex facilities △expanding environment-friendly agriculture by installing livestock manure treatment facilities and an eco-friendly solid microorganism culture center.

Mayor Lee Chung-woo of Yeoju stated, "This selection is a result created together by Yeoju citizens and the administration," and "Regardless of any challenges, we will steadfastly move forward on our promise with citizens to create 'Yeoju where everyone wants to visit' and 'Yeoju where everyone wants to live.'"
