Namyangju Residents' Autonomy Council Practices Community Sharing…Delivers 16 Million Won in Donations

[Suwon Ilbo=Eom In-yong reporter] The Namyangju Residents' Autonomy Council deposited 16 million won in donations to the Namyangju City Welfare Foundation on the 23rd at the mayor's office at City Hall to support vulnerable populations in the region.

This donation initiative was undertaken by the Residents' Autonomy Council to promote a culture of sharing while achieving mutual prosperity with the local community, and was raised through voluntary participation and solidarity of the 16 eup, myeon, and dong residents' autonomy (committee) members.

These groups raise 1 million won in donations annually from each autonomy (committee) organization, and the funds have been delivered to those in need through the welfare foundation since 2023.

Those in attendance at the donation ceremony included △Mayor Ju Gwang-deok of Namyangju △Jang Tae-sik, chairperson of the Residents' Autonomy Council △Won Byeong-il, representative director of Namyangju City Welfare Foundation, and others who participated in sharing the region's warm culture of giving.

Meanwhile, the Namyangju Residents' Autonomy Council continues to carry out various social contribution activities in addition to this donation. In 2022, the council delivered 20.3 million won to wildfire-affected areas in Gangwon and Gyeongbuk provinces and 10 million won in support funds for self-reliant youth. This year, the council has deposited 23 million won in donations for wildfire-affected areas in the Yeongnam region and 16 million won in disaster recovery funds for Jinjeop-eup and Gapyeong-gun flood damage, continuing steady sharing activities.

Mayor Ju Gwang-deok stated, "This donation was raised by residents' autonomy committee members pooling their hearts with small contributions, demonstrating a true example of the meaning of residents' autonomy," and added, "We hope that continued practice of sharing will deliver a positive resonance to our local community."
