Yangpyeong County Selected as Top Municipality for "Creating a Clean Gyeonggi 2025"

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Um In-yong] Yangpyeong County announced on the 19th that it has been selected as the top-rated municipality in this year's Gyeonggi Province "Creating a Clean Gyeonggi 2025 City and County Evaluation."

The county received the highest award in Group C at an excellent case presentation held on October 15 at Gyeonggi-do Imagination Campus, and was further selected as a top-rated city and county in the final results of November that included quantitative evaluation.

Since 2019, Gyeonggi Province has evaluated 31 cities and counties in the province annually by dividing them into three groups according to population size, and selects excellent municipalities by combining qualitative evaluation including excellent case presentations with quantitative evaluation consisting of 11 indicators.

Yangpyeong County received the highest qualitative evaluation score in its presentation under the theme "Yangpyeong County leads the reusable container revolution," and also received high marks across all quantitative indicators including △participation in the single-use-product-free Gyeonggi initiative △separate collection of transparent PET bottles in detached houses △publicity and education performance for waste generation reduction and illegal behavior prevention △management performance of collection facilities.

This award-winning achievement once again proves that Yangpyeong County's resource circulation policy is achieving excellent results in the province, and is significant in its important role in improving residents' living environment through reduction of household waste and establishing a sustainable resource circulation society.

With this award, the county will receive 40 million won in subsidy for competitive projects, which it plans to use for resource circulation projects including reduction of household waste generation, improvement of recycling rates, and raising awareness of household waste disposal.

County Chief Jeon Jin-seon said, "This award is the result of recognition of the effectiveness and excellence of our county's resource circulation policy, and is significant in that it allows us to spread exemplary cases to other municipalities," adding "we will continue to make greater efforts to build a sustainable circular economy society."
