Gwacheon City Unveils 40th Anniversary of City Status Slogan and Emblem
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-seong] Gwacheon City announced on the 30th that it has finalized a commemorative slogan containing the city's identity and future direction for its 40th anniversary of city status next year, and has produced a commemorative emblem based on it.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of city status, the city conducted a '40th Anniversary of City Status Commemorative Slogan Contest' to revisit the meaning of the city with residents and share the future vision for city administration. The contest was held from August 18 to 31 this year, with 1,151 participants from across the nation submitting a total of 1,831 works.
The city ensured fairness and objectivity by conducting a multi-stage evaluation process: internal judging panel assessment, city-wide employee preference survey, external preference survey with citizen and city council participation, and public verification and final judging. Through this process, the city selected 'I am Gwacheon, We are Gwacheon' as the best work representing the 40th anniversary of city status, capturing the meaning of individual citizens' pride expanding into community values.
Based on the selected slogan, the city also produced a commemorative emblem for the 40th anniversary of city status. The commemorative emblem draws inspiration from the city's assets including Yeonjuam Rock, Gwanak Mountain, Cheonggye Mountain, and Yangjae Stream, incorporating the foundation of the city that residents have enjoyed and preserved over the past 40 years, as well as cultural and artistic values and the significance of future advancement.
The city plans to apply the confirmed commemorative slogan and emblem to overall city administration related to the 40th anniversary of city status. The plan is to gradually implement them in various commemorative events, promotional materials, and city administration promotional content to share the significance of the 40th anniversary with residents and consistently communicate the message of the commemorative projects.
Mayor Shin Gye-yong stated, "The 40th anniversary commemorative slogan and emblem are results of jointly organizing Gwacheon's past and future direction through citizen participation," and added, "We will apply these to various projects and promotional activities throughout city administration in 2026 to spread the significance of the 40th anniversary, and enhance citizen pride and city brand value."
