[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-sung] Gwacheon City announced on the 30th that it has finalized a commemorative slogan containing the city's identity and future direction for next year's 40th anniversary of city status, and has produced a commemorative emblem based on this.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of city status, the city conducted a '40th Anniversary of City Status Slogan Contest' to reflect on the city's meaning together with citizens and share future municipal vision. The contest was held from August 18 to 31 this year, with 1,151 participants nationwide submitting a total of 1,831 works.

The city ensured fairness and objectivity by conducting a phased evaluation process: internal review panel assessment, city-wide staff preference survey, external preference survey with citizen and city council participation, public verification, and final review. Through this process, the city selected 'I am Gwacheon, We are Gwacheon'—which conveys the meaning of individual citizen pride expanding into community values—as the top entry representing the 40th anniversary of city status.

Based on the selected slogan, the city also produced a commemorative emblem. The emblem was inspired by city assets including Yeonju Rock, Gwanak Mountain, Cheonggyesan Mountain, and the Yangjae Stream, encompassing the urban foundation citizens have enjoyed and preserved over the past 40 years, as well as cultural and artistic values and the meaning of future development.

The city plans to apply the confirmed commemorative slogan and emblem to overall municipal affairs related to the 40th anniversary of city status. It will phased implement them in various commemorative events, promotional materials, and municipal promotion content to share the significance of the 40th anniversary with citizens and deliver consistent messaging for the commemorative project.

Mayor Shin Gye-yong stated, "The 40th anniversary commemorative slogan and emblem are results of organizing Gwacheon's past and future direction together through citizen participation," and added, "Throughout 2026, we will apply this to diverse projects and promotional activities across municipal affairs to expand the significance of the 40th anniversary and enhance citizen pride and city brand value."
