Gwacheon City Recruits Participants for First Urban Agriculture Garden Plot Distribution Until March 23

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Yu Je-sung] Gwacheon City announced on the 23rd that it is recruiting participants for the 'urban agriculture garden plot' distribution operated at the Gwacheon City Urban Agriculture Center in Galhyeon-dong until March 6.

The urban agriculture garden plot is a space where citizens can directly grow crops and experience harvesting in the heart of the city.

The city established the urban agriculture center in Galhyeon-dong last year and will begin full-scale operation of citizen programs starting with this garden plot distribution.

The city will accept online applications through Gyeonggi-do Sharing Service (share.gg.go.kr) from the 23rd through March 6 for both residents and organizations within the city.

Garden plots will be distributed at 10㎡ for individuals and 40㎡ for groups. Among applicants, 40 individuals and 5 groups will be selected through random computer drawing.

The garden plots will operate from March through November and will open on March 28. Individual usage fee is 5,000 won, while basic livelihood recipients and near-poor households can use it for free. Groups can use it for free if they donate 50% of their harvest to the local community.

The city will provide supporting infrastructure such as plot maintenance and installation of name plates, as well as water supply for agricultural use so that all citizens can participate without burden.

A city official said, "We hope the urban agriculture garden plot becomes a space for rest and communication in citizens' daily lives."
