Ganghwa County Accelerates Construction of Road Network Linked to Gaeyang-Ganghwa Expressway
[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Choi Ki-ho] Ganghwa County announced on the 23rd that it will accelerate construction of the Seonwon-myeon section of the 'Metropolitan Expressway No. 60 road construction project' in close cooperation with Incheon Metropolitan City, linked to the 'Gaeyang-Ganghwa Expressway.'
Metropolitan Expressway No. 60 is a major road network in Ganghwa County forming the east-west axis, with a total length of 13.68km connecting Seonwon-myeon and Naega-myeon. Following Incheon City's reorganization of metropolitan expressway routes in December of last year, the existing county roads and agricultural-fishing village roads were upgraded and designated as 'Metropolitan Expressway No. 60.'
The project target is a total 3.67km section connecting Sinjung-ri to Naengjeong-ri in Seonwon-myeon, the terminus of the Gaeyang-Ganghwa Expressway, to be developed as a four-lane expressway.
The county has made active efforts, including securing 300 million won for feasibility study and basic design in Ganghwa County's first supplementary budget to accelerate construction of Metropolitan Expressway No. 60.
The county plans to complete the feasibility study and basic design service by March 2027, and through future cooperation with Incheon City, to proceed through procedures such as detailed design and compensation with a completion target of 2032.
Once the project is completed, the major arterial road network within Ganghwa County will be interconnected with the expressway, and traffic accessibility for local residents and tourists is expected to be significantly improved.
Meanwhile, in preparation for the opening of the Gaeyang-Ganghwa Expressway in 2032, the county conducted 'feasibility study and basic plan establishment service for traffic network improvement around the expressway' twice—in 2022 and 2025—utilizing its own finances for road network improvements centered on the expressway.
Going forward, the county plans to review various route plans in preparation for increased traffic volume and changing traffic conditions, and to complete surrounding road network improvements without delay before the expressway opens.
County Governor Park Yong-chol stated, "This project is a meaningful achievement created through Ganghwa County's continuous efforts and Incheon City's active cooperation," adding, "Going forward, we will continue to cooperate closely with Incheon City to dramatically improve transportation infrastructure, enhance quality of life for county residents, and lead regional development."
