Suwon Special City Ranks First in Gyeonggi Province's Evaluation of Heavy Snow Response…Top-Rated Among 31 Cities and Counties

[Suwon Ilbo=Reporter Jung Jun-sung] Suwon Special City has been selected as the local government that handled snow removal best among 31 cities and counties in Gyeonggi Province last winter.

The city's administration received high marks for minimizing inconvenience to citizens by activating emergency response headquarters before snow fell and establishing a new snow removal manual.

According to Suwon City on the 7th, the city was selected as the top-rated local government in the heavy snow response category in the "2025-26 Winter Heavy Snow and Cold Wave Comprehensive Evaluation" overseen by Gyeonggi Province, securing 450 million won in financial incentives.

The evaluation period covered the winter natural disaster preparedness period from November 15 of last year through March 15 of this year. The province evaluated all 31 cities and counties based on their advance preparedness performance, emergency duty system operations, heads of government commitment, and overall disaster prevention and response measures.

The city scored in three areas: proactively activating the Disaster and Safety Response Headquarters, identifying and managing vulnerable factors in advance, and systematizing snow removal operations by creating the "Suwon City Snow Removal Manual." The city was also recognized for minimizing inconvenience to citizens during the response process.

The city plans to allocate the 450 million won secured this time to disaster prevention and citizen safety projects.

A city official stated, "We did our best in responding to heavy snow to protect citizen safety, and we are pleased to have received such a positive evaluation," adding "We will do our utmost to respond this coming winter to ensure that not a single life is lost."
