Saemaul Leaders' Association Delivers 100 Boxes of Kimchi to Underprivileged
The Saemaul Leaders' Association for Men and Women in Chopyeong-dong, Osan City (Chairman Ji Eun-seop, Women's Director Hong Jeong-hee) held a "Kimchi of Love" sharing event for elderly people living alone and low-income families at the Chopyeong-dong Community Center on the 14th and 15th.
Approximately 30 participants, including members of the Chopyeong-dong Men and Women Leaders' Association, Vice-Chairperson Kim Ji-hye of the Osan City Council, and City Councilor Choi In-hye, participated in the kimchi-making event to prepare for the coming winter by creating kimchi to distribute to neighbors in need. Mayor Gwak Sang-wook also visited the event site to encourage the members.
The annual "Kimchi of Love" event is held by the Saemaul Leaders' Association for Men and Women in Chopyeong-dong to help underprivileged neighbors in the community. This year held particular significance as approximately 400 napa cabbages were harvested from a fallow field in Beorum-dong, which was loaned free of charge by LH Corporation, after being carefully cultivated from seeds sown last summer, to make the kimchi.
Women's Director Hong Jeong-hee stated, "I extend my gratitude to everyone who participated in the 'Kimchi of Love' event despite the cold weather." She added, "I feel joy thinking that the kimchi our members carefully cultivated and prepared can become a small hope for neighbors in need, and going forward, we will make efforts in volunteer activities utilizing idle land to contribute to building Chopyeong-dong, a community full of warmth."
Chopyeong-dong Chief Choi Moon-sik said, "I appreciate the efforts of the Saemaul leaders who always take the lead in volunteer work for Chopyeong-dong residents, and I hope that approximately 100 boxes of kimchi to be delivered this time will be of some help in getting through the winter for those in need." He added, "Going forward, we will continue to build a happy Chopyeong-dong through voluntary volunteer activities."
