Osan City Conducts Gas Mask Wearing Training for Employees
This training was conducted as part of the "2014 Chemical and Biological Warfare Defense Posture Strengthening Policy" established to improve the current situation where the city is exposed without defense to chemical and biological warfare attacks amid North Korea's continuous provocations, one of the world's three major chemical weapons-possessing countries.
The training was led by instructors from the City's Safety and Civil Defense Team, using 50 new standard gas masks for employees to practice wearing the masks and receive lectures on how to respond in the event of a chemical and biological warfare attack in a serious atmosphere.
A city official stated, "In a situation where there are realistically insufficient professional evacuation facilities in the event of a chemical and biological warfare attack, gas mask wearing training and response procedures in peacetime are very important," and added, "We will continue to make efforts through ongoing public gas mask wearing training to help citizens familiarize themselves with wartime response procedures."
Meanwhile, the city plans to conduct not only this training for city hall employees but also rotating training for residents taking cultural lectures at each dong and operate gas mask experience booths during various events and festivals such as Children's Day and Citizens' Day to provide outreach public gas mask wearing training.
Additionally, in April, the city plans to conduct a joint civil defense drill for military, government, police, and civilian units in preparation for chemical and biological warfare attacks.
